At Nonsuch Primary, we are committed to providing a rich and broad curriculum that goes beyond the classroom. We believe in offering our pupils a wide range of opportunities to deepen their learning through engaging experiences, events, workshops, visitors, and educational trips.
Our carefully planned trips span a variety of subjects, including History, Science, Geography, PSHE, RE, and Literacy, ensuring that children can make meaningful connections between their studies and the real world. These experiences help to bring learning to life, making it more relevant and exciting for our pupils, while fostering curiosity and a love of learning.
Please see an example list of some of the opportunities we offered the pupils in 2023-2024.
At Nonsuch Primary, we place a high value on sports as an integral part of our curriculum, recognizing the importance of physical activity for both well-being and personal development. Our pupils participate in a wide range of sporting opportunities, both in school and locally, from traditional team sports to more adventurous activities. In 2023-2024, some of our pupils took part in an exciting climbing experience, and for 2024-2025, we are delighted to have agreed to host an archery event for local schools, providing even more unique opportunities for students to engage in adventurous activities
We are proud to have been awarded the prestigious Gold Standard Mark in Sports for several consecutive years, a testament to our commitment to excellence in physical education and our dedication to providing diverse sporting experiences for all children. These opportunities help to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience, while encouraging a lifelong love of sport.
One of the advantages of being a small school is that, with only 30 children in each year group, pupils enjoy significantly more opportunities to participate in events compared to larger schools. This ensures that every child has a chance to get involved.
As a passionate advocate for outdoor learning, our headteacher strongly believes in the transformative benefits that Forest School can offer to children’s development. We are committed to a three-year plan to gradually expand our provision of Forest School opportunities across the school.
Our aim is to create an outdoor space in the EYFS that supports Forest School-style learning, fostering curiosity and hands-on experiences from the earliest years. Additionally, we plan to ensure that all KS1 and KS2 pupils have the opportunity to participate in a Forest School programme at least once a year, enriching their learning through meaningful, nature-based experiences.
We are also focused on enhancing children’s playtime by improving the playground to offer more engaging and active opportunities at lunchtime, encouraging physical activity and creative play. To ensure these improvements meet the needs and interests of the pupils, we will be working closely with the School Council, inviting them to share their opinions and ideas on how to make playtime even more enjoyable and beneficial.
