Pupils as Leaders
Our pupil councils and leadership opportunities play a vital role in school life, giving our students a voice and empowering them to actively shape the future of Nonsuch Primary School. Because we are a small school, most children have the opportunity to take on a leadership role, at some point during their time with us.
School Council
Children from Y1 - Y6 represent their class on School Council. They provide insights which impact on curriculum, effective learning, behaviour for learning, improving the quality and variety of provision.
What our reps say about the council:
'School council is about improving and making the school a better and safer place.'
'The pros and cons from a child's perspective.'
'School council is a group of pupils who have been elected by their fellow classmates. Their aim is to improve school-life.'
EcoWarriors
Eco Warriors promote sustainability and are always considering ways to improve the environment.
Mental Health Heroes:
These children look at health and well-being across the school for pupils, what improvements can be made, playtime improvements, healthy schools etc
Junior Supremos
Our Year 5 children receive a 2 ½ hour training session from a Sutton sports' coach which covers the basics of leadership and communication skills. The children then put these skills into practice by delivering an activity session to a group of KS1 pupils. Once the training is complete the children lead daily sporting sessions, at lunchtime with the KS1 children.
Year 6 Monitor and Buddies
Our Year 6 students take on various monitor roles, supporting classes across the school and embracing key responsibilities. Each September, our Year 6 Buddies warmly welcome and assist our new Year 1 children. Walking through the school gates independently, for the first time, can be a nerve-wracking experience for Year 1 students, but our Year 6 children provide encouragement and support, helping to make this transition smoother and more reassuring.
Reading Rangers (new this year)
Children from Key Stage 2 take on the responsibility of promoting reading throughout the school. They share book recommendations during assemblies, read with younger students, and encourage reading during playtime.
